Riley Smith

In early 2008, Riley was inspired  by then presidential candidate Barack Obama and his grassroots approach to politics. As a result, Riley went on to become a volunteer with Organizing For America.  In 2009, Smith organized and facilitated an informational meeting regarding the newly proposed Affordable Healthcare Act legislation.

In 2010, Riley secured an internship with the Young Elected Officials Network, a program by People for the American Way, in which he gained a working knowledge of nonprofit 501 C3 and 501 C4  procedure.  Later that year, Riley was selected to serve in the role of Election Day Coordinator and subsequently as Political Director for FACE Alliance, a nonprofit GOTV organization.  Further, via an open letter, Riley successfully convinced the Hillsborough County Transportation Authority to offer voters, who presented their voter identification cards, a free ride to the polls on Election Day 2010.

Since 2009, Riley has dedicated a great deal of his time volunteering with community based organizations such as the Soup Kitchen at the Leon County Shelter, the Leon County Humane Society, the John G. Riley Center/Museum, the 2nd Infantry Regiment United States Colored Troops Reenactment Unit, the Florida Department of Corrections(Gavel Club), and many others.

Currently, Riley works as an equipment broker for a company which he confounded, H & S Remarketing, LLC. Riley is also a proud member of the "Tallahassee Toastmasters" club and serves as the Sponsor for the "Esteemed Speakers" Gavel Club at the Wakulla Correctional Institution Work Camp.  As the Gavel Club Sponsor, Smith facilitates meetings for the inmates, which are tantamount to the advantageous meetings and programs enjoyed by Toastmaster International Members. Riley has also assisted Mr. Chuck Rabaut with the implementation of numerous gavel clubs in prisons located within Florida Department of Corrections Region 1.
